Why Educational Research Conferences Are Important To All Educators

By Anita Ortega

Nobody will deny the fact that the success of a community or country is directly related to the quality of the education that it offers. If the standards are low, the teachers and instructors demotivated, the learning material difficult to obtain and the facilities in poor condition then it is not possible to offer an education that will ensure that the community grows and prospers. These issues, together with potential solutions, are discussed during regular educational research conferences.

There are numerous serious challenges facing those responsible for education and training. It is especially poor communities that simply cannot hope to keep up with the fast pace of change. Wealthy communities embrace new technology and use it to improve the quality of teaching and to empower learners. Poor societies cannot even supply basic equipment and facilities. This means that the chasm between poor and rich is growing.

There are other issues that have a serious negative impact on the quality of education in poor communities. Malnutrition, epidemics such as AIDS and TB and exposure to harsh environments are all factors that have a detrimental influence on the ability of learners to attend school. These social issues are detrimental on many levels of society, but if anything is to be done to raise the standard of education they will need to be part of the solution.

Studies must also be done to remain updated regarding the many technological and scientific advanced made. These advanced create entirely new careers and new skills are continually needed. Such studies must therefore focus on the identification of the changing needs of industry and the education system must be made flexible enough to provide those skills when needed.

Another important field of ongoing study is curriculum design and the development of new delivery methods. The computer, for example, and the internet have opened new worlds for educators. Suddenly, it is not necessary for all students to be physically present in a classroom. Yet new innovations can only be introduced into the education system after proper investigation into the best way to do so.

Regular conventions for educators are important. Much research in the field of education and fields relevant to it is done globally and it is important that results can be announced, shared and discussed. In this way educators can implement improvements and new methodologies quickly and efficiently. By learning from each other educators can avoid costly mistakes and pitfalls already discovered by others.

Conventions also serve an important role in allowing educators to interact with experts from other disciplines. Social issues that manifest in the classroom, for example, can be brought to the attention of agencies and organizations that deal with those social issues. Education cannot stand apart from any other factor that has an influence on the community as a whole.

Nobody will argue the fact that an education obtained from a modern highly regarded institution is worth almost anything. The modern world is demanding and those that have not been lucky enough to receive a proper education face tremendous challenges. Throughout the ages an education has always been the passport to success and the responsibility to achieve this success is largely in the hands of educators.
