Farmers Markets & How Brazil Is Seeing Increases

By Robert Sutter

It doesn't take much to figure out that farmers markets are growing tremendously in terms of popularity. Individuals have grown more and more accustomed to having some of the best crops out there and they will be able to attain them if they can cover the prices. For those who can, they will receive items that will improve their health in the long term. Understanding such markets, how has the level of growth changed overtime, more specifically in areas of the world outside of the United States?

In Brazil, farmers markets are slowly but surely seeing growth within Brazil. An article on Occupy talked about this, saying as how there has been a great demand for some of the freshest food items out there. In fact, Belo Horizonte - viewed as one of Brazil's biggest cities - showed a 10% increase in demand during the first half of this year. To say that authorities along the lines of Colle Farmers Market should focus on this is probably something that goes without saying for most.

I think most of this has to do with the idea of social media and how there has been far more information brought to the surface. In particular, Brazil's heavy usage of pesticides has been talked about and 11.2 pounds were used per person each year. This is tremendous, to say the least, especially when you considered that the article stated how this is twice as much as what's been utilized in the United States. It goes without saying that changes have to be made in this area.

I think that the idea of education is very important because it raises concerns that might not have been there otherwise. Fruits and vegetables of many types are going to be seen and many of them are going to have pesticides in tremendous amounts. I believe that strawberries are some of the most prevalent in this regard, seeing as how the ridges of such berries can render cleaning a chore. You will not be able to rinse off every bit of this particular fruit a well.

I feel as though more individuals should have organic vegetable markets seen in high abundance and I am sure that most would agree with me on the matter. In my eyes, these markets are some of the best and it is difficult for me to say otherwise. Hopefully more information is brought to the surface so that even more demand is seen for these markets. No matter which region of the world you are talking about, healthful crops of many types should be seen in high abundance.
