Texas Public Records

By Ben Kingsley

The State Health Department is the central repository of Texas Public Records. The records can also be retrieved from the county offices because that is where they were made official. Any individual can submit a request for the records but must be able to provide the requirements specified by the concerned government office. The government is strict when it comes to requirements, if one requirement is lacking, the request will still not be accepted. An individual who requests for the records will be provided with the basic, but important, details such as the full name of an individual and when and where an event happened. Other parts of the documents are not given to just anybody because they are deemed as confidential. They can only be accessed by the owners of the records, their respective attorneys, and other parties that have the consent of the court to do so.

Records of birth, death, marriage, and divorce are considered as vital records and they are also part of the public domain. Criminal records are also open to the public. Anyone who wishes to obtain them should approach the appropriate office, submit a formal request, and pay the corresponding fees. Request forms are available at the appropriate office or it can be downloaded from their official website.

Although the records are open to the public, it is prohibited by the law to use them inappropriately such as to defame, embarrass, blackmail, or threaten another person. Anyone caught violating such will be punished accordingly by the law. The records are to be used as a source of information and as a supporting document only.

There are various instances where retrieving the records can be of great use. Hiring employees, accepting tenants, or checking the background of a certain individuals - these are instances where the information that you get from the records can help in formulating a safe and wise decision. Some people make use of the records to track their long lost family member or to find out about their bloodlines.

There are online search tools that specialized in providing public files to users. They are authorized by the court so that people that want to view or retrieve the files online can do so. Some search tools that offer their services for free while others render their service at a certain cost. Several search tools can be found on the Web, but not all of them are genuine. Conducting a research about the history of particular search tools helps in determining if they are a reliable source or not.

Public records have long been used the general public in various ways. It cannot be denied that their existence is very important to the lives of the people. Getting informed is not a privilege; it is a right that people should not ignore. However, it is your responsibility to make sure that you are correctly informed.
